Thoughts on Thankfulness

Thoughts on Thankfulness

This week people all over our country will be spending time with the ones they hold dear in celebration of Thanksgiving. As is custom, this is a time to reflect on the things we are thankful for and acknowledge the good in our lives. For some this comes easy, but it can also be very challenging considering the extra stress that comes with the holiday season.

Maybe it is the concern of comparison between family members or the social anxiety of hosting guests. Perhaps it is stress over money. For some it may simply be a busy a time that throws off the daily balance of life. With all of this clouding one’s mind, and a house full of rambunctious relatives, it can be extremely difficult to humbly reflect on what you are grateful for.

So, in an attempt to make it easier for you, we would like to ask a simple question:

What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things that you thanked God for today?

So often we forget to thank God for the simple blessings that we have in our lives. Our health, our homes, our family members & friends. These are such important pieces of our hearts, minds and lives that are rarely celebrated because we are constantly focused on the word “more.” What more do we want? What more can others do for us? What more do we need to be happy?

The world we live in today has us focused on what is lacking as opposed to what is abundant, and we would encourage you to reverse that psychology this Thanksgiving and throughout the coming year. We would encourage you to look past the worldly issues that you encounter on a daily basis and truly focus on what you are grateful for. And we challenge you to shift your perspective on the word “more.” This Thanksgiving we urge you to focus on spreading more love and more thankfulness. To do more for others that are in need and thank those who do so much for you. Because if you really only had what you thanked God for every day, what would you wake up with tomorrow?

Happy Thanksgiving from the Cornerstone Family. Blessings to you and yours!
